Which AI Difficulty Should You Choose? Easy, Medium, Hard and Expert Compared

- The AI engine uses 100% certified fair dice RNG; the AI never receives biased or loaded rolls.
- Easy AI is forgiving and ideal for learning basic movement and board mechanics.
- Medium AI provides a solid recreational benchmark, avoiding obvious blots.
- Hard and Expert AI employ deep positional heuristics, prime construction, and flawless bear-off mathematics.
Fair Dice Guarantee: No Artificial Luck
A common frustration in mobile backgammon games is "cheating" AI that rolls miraculous doubles to pull off unrealistic comebacks. In Clean Backgammon, we instituted a strict zero-compromise policy: the AI draws from the exact same cryptographic pseudo-random number generator as the human player.
The difficulty levels differ solely in the sophistication of their positional evaluation heuristics, NOT in the rolls they receive.
Selecting Your AI Difficulty in the App
To select your bot opponent, tap "SELECT MODE" on the main lobby screen. Under "Play Now (AI)", an intuitive dropdown allows you to switch between the 4 difficulty tiers at any time.

The 4 AI Levels Detailed
• Easy: Designed for complete beginners. Easy AI plays instinctively, often prioritizing single-checker advancements over building defensive anchors.
• Medium: A well-rounded sparring partner. Medium AI avoids leaving exposed blots, defends vulnerable checkers, and manages the home board cleanly.
• Hard: For experienced club players. Hard AI actively builds 4-to-6 point primes, splits back checkers strategically, and executes advanced Lover’s Leap plays.
• Expert: A tournament-grade grandmaster engine. Expert AI calculates deep equity rollouts, balances running vs holding games, and executes bearing-off maneuvers with zero waste.
